Procedures
When you receive your course kit, it is recommended that you follow the listed steps to start your entry into your course work. The course kit and components are illustrated below.
The course kit includes an exercise workbook, a text handbook, a multimedia CD-ROM, and a component test kit for use in the exercises. The use of a Fluke digital multimeter is not a requirement for this course.
- Take inventory of the required material.
- Digital Multimeter Principles textbook.
- Digital Multimeter Principles Online Training Program binder (CD-ROM, and the Digital Multimeter Principles Workbook including Activities and Applications).
- Components Kit (Components and parts inventory sheet used to identify specific components).
- Identify the digital multimeter(s) that will be used.
The training program can be used with any digital multimeter (DMM). However, the more ranges and features the DMM has, the greater the number of activities that can be completed. Using different types of DMMs will also allow for greater understanding of uses and differences between model types.
- Read the “Using This CD-ROM” pages in beginning of the binder to acquaint you with information about system requirements, opening files, and other general information.
- Place the Digital Multimeter Principles CD-ROM in your computer and wait for the program to load*. After reading the information on the screen, double-click on “START”. This will take you to the Digital Multimeter Principles Online Training Program home page. *Be sure that your computer has already been loaded with the Adobe Acrobat 4.0 Reader plug-in and Quicktime Movie Player...see DMP-01 Home page for plug-in links.
- Access from the home page the Activities, Survey/Test, FAQs (frequently asked questions), Illustrated Glossary, Virtual DMM, E-mail to the instructor, and additional web sites.
- Start by double-clicking on “Using this CD-ROM”. Read the information provided in the following sections:
- System Requirements
- Opening Files
- Activities
- DMM Survey/Test
- FAQs
- Illustrated Glossary
- Virtual DMM
- E-mail Instructor
- Web Site Reference Material
- Copyright
- After reading this information, return to the home page by clicking the home page icon.
- Double-click on “Activities” on the Home Page. From this screen you can access each of the Activities, go to the Illustrated Glossary and FAQs, and E-mail your instructor. Start by opening the Digital Multimeter Principles Workbook to Activity 1-1. Read the textbook pages listed at the top of the page in the Workbook before starting Activity 1-1. Note the required equipment and components listed. Double-click on Activity 1-1. Using the directions, complete Activity 1-1 and submit the test to your instructor. Repeat these procedures for each Activity.
- Complete and submit all Activities, then complete and submit the posttest to your instructor.
Upon receiving your registration, we will e-mail you your DMP-01 Course log-in information which includes your Password (PW) and Username (UN). You will also receive links for you to follow to complete your Digital Multimeter Survey and Pretest. You will need to follow these links to the DMP-01 Course Management Site where you will log-in and complete the Survey and Pretest. This exercise will better acquaint you with the testing procedures that you will encounter for each unit's test.
Testing requires that 100% of all total points be scored when you take a test. In order for you to achieve that score, you will be permitted to take a particular test until you receive all possible points.
